Katie is career minded. She really wants to be an
investigative reporter. When she's in college, her best friend, Claire, goes
missing. This changes everything for Katie, and when Claire is never found, Katie
decides what she really wants is a quiet life.
When Katie meets Howard, the two of them fall in love. He's more than happy to give her the quiet life she desires, and she becomes a stay-at-home wife. When he sells his company for an astronomical sum, the couple becomes rich beyond their wildest imaginations. Katie is happy, but when she hears from a contact who talks with her about a new housing development in the Colorado mountains that might be connected to a string of missing girls, Katie's desire to become a reporter—and her need to do something to help ease the guilt she's always carried about Claire's disappearance—is reignited. When she tells Howard she's interested in purchasing one of these houses as a possible vacation home, he happily agrees with her, but he doesn't know the whole truth.
Or does he?
Holy crow! I can only imagine how long it took the author to piece this complex story together. There is so much more to the plot than I could ever include in a review. What I will tell you is that I was intrigued by the synopsis, and Cannon held my interest the entire way through. And that ending? I'm not sure it could have been written any better.
