Four Weird Traits: Thirty Day Writing Challenge Day 25

Only four???? I can think of a lot more than that. What kind of traits are we talking? Personality quirks or physical? Wow. Maybe it's a good thing I'm limited to four. My brain just filled up with a ton of things - both good, and then not so good. I guess I'll just jump in and see what happens.

I always look up

This picture was taken a while ago - not for this specific post - but it illustrates the fact that I do this a lot.

It's my alien look. Oh, and my kids will tell you that the perspective here is off. My mouth isn't actually this small. :)

I've caught myself doing this on countless occasions. It's usually when I'm watching television, or a movie in a theater. I tend to tuck my chin down and look up with my eyes. I don't know why. When I realize I'm doing it, I straighten up, but I always wind up in this position again.

I bite my bottom lip

No, no, no ... not in a sensual kind of way, but in a nervous kind of way. It's a bad habit. I do this when I'm stressed out, and I rarely know I'm doing it until I cause myself injury. I've made my lip bleed on several occasions. Often times I keep the fact that I'm stressed hidden from my family - or I don't realize it myself - and then one of them sees that I've been biting my lip. Then I have to figure out what's going on so I can get things settled in my head.

I have a freaky memory

It's true - and I don't mean to freak people out, but sometimes I do.

I remember weird stuff. Most of the time I remember stuff I'm not consciously trying to remember.

Dates are things that stick in my head. I'm especially good with birthdays and anniversaries. I'm also pretty good with names. I'll be talking with someone and bring up things they've told me before; things like their kids' names, or some event they've shared with me. That's when they often start looking at me sideways. Sometimes they think it's cool. They'll remark on it, telling me they're impressed by my memory. A lot of people are happy, perhaps a little surprised that I listened and remembered what they previously told me. Other times they think I'm a weirdo and I unintentionally make them uncomfortable.

I don't mean to remember a lot of the things I do. The bad part of this is that a good deal of the time, I don't remember things I really want or need to remember. If I go to the grocery store without a list, there's no way I'll be coming home with all the things I went to the store to get. My memory is freaky - not perfect. I will say that it comes in handy as a reader and an editor, though.

I smile ... a lot

I used to play a game. I can't remember when it started, but it's been a long time ago now. I would smile at everyone I came across just to see if I could get them to smile back. It's amazing how surprised people are to receive a smile. Of course there were a lot of folks who happily returned the gesture - but some people acted startled by it and looked away.

I'm not scary, folks. It's a smile for god's sake.

I stopped playing that game, but now I just smile. I don't think about it, it just happens. That's how I say hello. I see someone on the street and instead of greeting them verbally, I smile. It's my default. I'm just always smiling. That's not to say I won't talk to you. I will. But when I do, I'll be smiling.

Are those traits weird? I don't know. I guess I'll let you be the judge.
